Pre-pubertal growth and cognitive function.

British longitudinal data were used to investigate the association of heights at 22 months and 5 years with a digit recall test at age 10 years. Greater height, particularly at 5 years, was associated with higher scores, suggesting that some exposures influence both growth and capability for cognitive function.

Pubertal growth and epiphyseal fusion

The complex networks of nutritional, cellular, paracrine, and endocrine factors are closely related with pubertal growth and epiphyseal fusion. Important influencing factors include chondrocyte differentiation capacity, multiple molecular pathways active in the growth plate, and growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor-I axis activation and epiphyseal fusion through estrogen and its receptors....

Pubertal growth assessment.

Almost all available sets of height growth reference values are constructed in a cross-sectional manner, except for a few studies in which longitudinal sampling was used. Such reference values are, however, flawed because of considerable individual variation in the timing of puberty, especially among children with early or late pubertal maturation. An additional complicating factor is that the ...

Pubertal growth in diabetics.

Mean values for two variables of the pubertal growth spurt, peak height velocity and age at peak velocity, of children attending the diabetic clinic in Bristol are reported. The growth spurt was normal both in timing and intensity in boys, but the peak velocity was reduced and age at peak velocity more variable among girls.

Epicardial fat, abdominal adiposity and insulin resistance in obese pre-pubertal and early pubertal children.

OBJECTIVE To assess the cross-sectional association of epicardial fat with insulin resistance, major abdominal adipose depots, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in obese pre-pubertal and early pubertal children. METHODS By using magnetic resonance imaging in 30 pre-pubertal and early pubertal patients [21 males, Tanner Stage I-II, median age 11.2 (2.95) y, BMI z-score 2.56 ± 0.11 ...
